The heat treatment process is designed to reduce the risk of spreading regulated pests through solid wood packaging. Under conventional heat treatment schedules, the entire wood profile must reach at least 56°C for 30 continuous minutes.
ISPM15-compliant wood packaging carries the IPPC mark, country code, producer or treatment-provider code and an approved treatment code such as HT.

The standard does not apply a simple calendar expiry date to an intact compliant mark. However, repaired, remanufactured or altered wood packaging may need to be re-treated and re-marked to remain compliant.
